North Macedonia is a country of ideas and knowledge that has existed throughout their history.

Choosing to invest your education and time in Macedonian universities is a good decision, as they aim to supply the best possible environment to help you succeed personally and academically. Education, research and science play a crucial role here. As North Macedonia is becoming more and more preferred by foreign students, it has become a hub for cutting-edge international research and a constant source of new patents.

Macedonian universities provide a holistic and international educational program set up on the backbone of innovation, academic excellence, cultural respect, and international orientation. Having employed experienced and dedicated educators, universities inspire students to achieve their passions and become what they always aspired to be.

As a place to study, North Macedonia offers courses which are equipped to international needs, a credit system which allows the accumulation and transfer of study and exam modules and internationally recognised qualifications. Additionally, government universities don’t charge tuition fees and some private universities charge as low as 500-2000 euros per year. Moreover, the technical and hospitality universities are among the best in the Balkan region.

We can notice that education is a big priority in North-Macedonia by comparing the size of the country and the number of accredited universities and independent faculties there. The most known universities in North Macedonia are:

  • Ss Cyril and Methodius University – Skopje
  • University Goce Delcev – Stip
  • South East European University, Tetovo

However, among these it is important to mention that many more academies, universities and faculties exist in North Macedonia that bring value to the educational system there. Especially for the (re)education in digital skills many new private academies came to exist and started transforming the workforce to be more relevant in the 21st century.

The schools here are part of a family of exceptional international schools around the world and intend to make student life as pleasant as it can be by offering various on-campus and off-campus activities:

  • Social and recreational activities (movie nights, camping, sport tournaments, gaming competitions)
  • Community services (fundraising, blood donation and activities that support orphan and cancer initiatives)
  • Educational activities (enable students to visit organizations and institutions in different subject fields)
  • Student services (facilitating arrangements for students with special requests, orientation days, counseling sessions)
  • Internships and employability (students are given the chance to build links with potential employers towards their final year of study).

Another important aspect concerning the student life in North Macedonia are the student expenses. Two years ago a study done by 5 major Macedonian universities, in collaboration with the Open Society Foundation – Macedonia, concluded that students in North-Macedonia spend around 22.000 denars or 360 euros per month. On top of that, there are many options for financing your studies, including the use of scholarships. There are various scholarship opportunities available for international students looking to study in North Macedonia, which makes it a very attractive place to start your academic career.

All in all it’s becoming apparent that North-Macedonia is an appealing place for students to live and study, whether you are a local or foreign student. The country is fostering a good environment for the workforce of the 21st century with its good technical universities and focus on digital skills.
